CRAWLEY CREATIVE PLAYGROUND

Around the Lake festival

July ‘24

Co-created mural as part of two days of workshops that allowed participants to explore ideas of lettering and self-expression connected to the street art form of graffiti, using spray paint, markers and stencilling to express ideas and create a communal art piece around the lake. Graffiti came from impoverished areas where people felt overlooked and ignored, so they created aliases to make their mark on the world around them and show that they exist and matter by using tags. Using the common term on a map the communal piece spells out the phrase ‘You Are Here’ as a reference to your individual existence in the world and give a sense of place and connection to the environment.
